Modern day Fish tanks

Most aquariums are made completely from glass, bonded together with silicone sealant. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, such as cuboid, hexagonal, angled to fit into corners and bow shaped. Fish bowls on the other hand, are generally a glass or plastic spherical shape. Fish tanks can also be made from acrylic material or laminated glass. Acrylic is stronger than glass, and much lighter. The only downside to an acrylic tank is that they are easy to scratch. To overcome this, laminated glass was introduced. 

Size and Volume

Aquariums come in all sizes, from a small glass bowl that contains less than a litre of water, to immense public aquariums, that house an underwater world of their own. Before choosing an aquarium for the home, take into consideration of what sort of fish you wish to keep, and where it will be placed. A full fish tank is very heavy, one litre of fresh water has a mass of 1 kilogram.
